Summer Fit-n-Fun #6

All I heard was 1… 2… 3… then they let go and I went flying.

No need to explain any further, just do something sporting and adventurous. As a lady in the video say, “what was I thinking!” Well… besides, “I gotta pee,” it was a fun thrill ride I’ll remimber for a long time.

Summer Fit-n-Fun #5

As you look across the marsh, down over the blue-grey waters, up high piercing the sky… there it lays.  From a distance you see what looks like a woman lying on her back.  Up close you see tall trees, little furry animals scamping around and many well worn trails.

Mt. Tamalpias, here in the San Francisco Bay Area is home to some of the best mountain biking in the country.  You have a choice of fire roads and single track.  Be warned, the uphill climbs are thigh burning, but the view at the top on a clear day is spectacular.

All you need is a lunch and a tool kit.  Going with buddies guarantees a little competition, unless it’s just a slow steady ride you’re after.  So strap on that helmet, put on some gloves and start peddling.

Or… Go Take a Hike

When you go to Hawaii, they say Go Climb a Volcano… When you go to Yosemite, they say Go Climb a Rock… However, if you go to Zion National Park in Arizona, they say…

Just one level above simply walking and a few more items required, hiking is a great way to explore the great outdoors.  Click here for a great resource for finding a trail here in the San Francisco Bay Area.

See you at the top!

Golf HoleAs the echoing words of “FOUR” fill the air, you turn around suddenly only to see your friends duck and cover as a small white object comes screaming past you only to rebound irradically off a tree and bounce just a few feet from your already blistering feet.  You look down the green grass, some 200 yards plus away, only to see three people wearing neon shirts waving.  These are the hazardous sights and sounds of playing a round of golf.

AT&T Park - San FranciscoAs the crowd stands, stretches and begins singing Take me out to the ball game, one knows that the 7th inning has ended.  The game, of course, is baseball.  I can still remember the the playoffs spent with my son at AT&T Park as the San Francisco Giants won some torturous games and eventually became the World Champs for the 2010 season.

Our Family Runs the Bay to Breakers

Bay to Breakers Horiz Centennial Logo 2011As this year’s Bay to Breakers approached, our home was filled with a combination of nervousness and excitement.  My kids were a little nervous about the possibility of seeing naked people running around and I was excited for yet another race through the streets of San Francisco.  You see the Bay to Breakers symbolizes a long lasting journey for my running career.  The one race I have done 9 times over the last 30 years, and this, would be my 10th.

Marathon, Your Plan for Success

check-list-clipboard“If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.” ~Unknown

For some, these words can ring like the bells of Notre Dame at noon… loud, deafening, echoing far into the distance.  For others, it’s like a soft concerto of birds singing in a nearby cherry tree prior to their feast.  After my last Half-Marathon race, the questions of “Did I properly train for this race?”  and “Why did it seem a little bit harder?” entered my mind.

Picture This

Road to HeavenImagine yourself out running and you see the trail heading to a summit, like the one here.  What do you do, what do you see?

Two things… Your eyes glance to the end and up to the sky, then your mind begins to fill in the rest beyond the top.

What feelings come to mind?

Take a moment, right now.  Look at the picture and visualize what’s on top… Continue reading
